Reduce Allergic Asthma Symptoms in 5 Days: Yoga

I’m starting up a new series today–how you can reduce allergic asthma symptoms in 5 days. Each day, I’ll post a simple thing that you can do to help relieve your symptoms. By the end of the five days, you’ll have five new habits that can help with your allergic asthma symptoms. Each day, you should do both the new habit and all the previous days’ habits and in total they won’t add more than 15 minutes to your routine. When you think of the time that your allergic asthma symptoms require, I think you’ll agree this time investment will be well worth it!

The Reduce Allergic Asthma Symptoms in 5 Days series will be posted in its entirety absolutely free, but I can’t say how long I’ll leave it that way, so make sure to follow along as I post them so that you’ll definitely have access.

Day One: Yoga

Your first new habit is Child’s Pose. Every morning and every night for ten full breaths, take Child’s Pose, count ten inhales and ten exhales, and just let your mind and body relax. (Don’t worry if your mind wanders, but try to keep it from getting stuck on any particular thought. If it gets stuck, just bring your attention back to your breath and remind your brain that you’re counting.)

I like to do this pose on my bed each morning before I get up because it’s so easy to do. I do find that it can be stressful when my allergic asthma symptoms have flared up because the last thing I want to do then is focus on my breath–that hurts! So, if you’re currently experiencing especially frustrating allergic asthma symptoms, be extra patient with yourself. You still have to start this habit today 😉 but do remember that focusing on your breathing isn’t always painful and that it’s okay that today it feels so frustrating.

Oftentimes, I find my allergic asthma symptoms are dramatically reduced just by acknowledging that I’m having trouble breathing. Just by acknowledging that I can’t take as deep a breath as I’d like or that the breath I can take hurts often helps my entire body relax. While it doesn’t always relieve all of my allergic asthma symptoms, it does help me feel more okay about the symptoms so that I’m not fighting feeling what my body’s feeling. (I know that sounds a little woo-woo, but think about how much emotional yuck you add to physical pain out of frustration sometimes–that sure doesn’t seem conducive to healing, does it?)

That’s it for Day One in the Reduce Allergic Asthma Symptoms in 5 Days Series. Make sure you return tomorrow to read (and complete) Day Two.

Here’s the complete list of habits:

Which one are you most looking forward to?

  • About

Hiya! I'm Jess. I was diagnosed with allergy-induced asthma about two years ago.

Since then, I've found that my asthma symptoms are a great barometer of just how well I'm taking care of myself. On days when I practice self care, I breathe easier than on days when I don't.

Now that I've gotten a handle on my own symptoms I wanted to create a place where I could share what's worked for me and hear from *you* on what helps to treat your allergic asthma symptoms. Welcome to my site. I'm looking forward to getting to know you.
