Reduce Allergic Asthma Symptoms in 5 Days: Get Some Sun
Welcome to Day Four of the Reduce Allergic Asthma Symptoms in 5 Days Series.
Day Four: Get Some Sun
Today we’re going to reduce allergic asthma symptoms by getting outdoors and getting some sun. Doctors are still discovering just how good vitamin D is for you, and so while you do need to be careful about getting *too much* sun, they mostly agree that as long as we’re safe, we should all get a little, every day.
If you work behind a desk, or are indoors from sun up to sun down, get your doctor’s advice on spending 10-15 minutes outside without sunblock. For most of us, this is safe and will make a big difference in overall health.
One word of caution–if your allergic asthma symptoms are exacerbated by pollen, you’ll want to stay indoors when pollen counts are high or follow up outdoor time with a neti pot.
One great way to combine the best of all worlds is to take a relaxing walk in the sunshine every day. You’ll get the benefits of being in motion for 10-15 minutes (which is good for much more than lung health). You’ll get to be out in the sunshine, soaking up vitamin D through your skin. And you’ll be outdoors which has been shown to boost mood, reduce depression, and relieve stress–all of which are really great for healthier breathing and overall health.
A little light gardening can also be a lovely way to get some sun as long as it doesn’t increase your allergic asthma symptoms, so be careful with this one. And, of course, don’t overdo any physical exertion–you don’t want to exacerbate your breathing difficulties.
As always, remember to listen to your body and your doctor about your new healthy habits to relieve allergic asthma symptoms, and enjoy basking in just a little bit of sun!
That’s it for Day Four in the Reduce Allergic Asthma Symptoms in 5 Days Series. Make sure you return tomorrow to read (and complete) Day Five.
