Symptoms of exercise induced asthma
I was talking with my doctor yesterday about exercise induced asthma and the symptoms because a friend has recently started having trouble breathing when she does wind sprints. Like me, she’s always had great lung capacity before now, and so I wanted to ask my doctor if there were any symptoms of exercise induced asthma that show up *before* the wheezing mid-run.
He said that it’s different for everyone, and that for many people there aren’t any symptoms at all which is why its so important to head straight to your doctor the minute you experience breathing difficulties. He did say that athletes tend to be more attuned to their bodies and so sometimes they notice wheezing that’s very mild which sends them to their doctor earlier than people who aren’t as focused on how their bodies feel at every moment.
He did say that symptoms include all the traditional asthma symptoms–shortness of breath, wheezing, congestion, tightness in your ribs and lungs–and that because these symptoms can indicate something a lot more serious than just asthma that you should always call your doctor immediately when you experience them whether or not you were exerting yourself.
Then he asked me if I was ready to try a 100% raw diet to see if it helped reduce my symptoms of exercise induced asthma and my allergic asthma overall and I said that I was still gearing up for that (if you eat a fully raw diet and you’ve found it’s eliminated or eased your breathing difficulties, feel free to chime in–I need more encouragement before I make the leap)…
