Allergy Asthma Treatment: An Apple a Day Keeps Attacks at Bay?

We’ve talked before about foods that double as allergy asthma treatment possibilities. But what we haven’t talked about is how to make a routine of eating these foods.

After all, there’s only so many apples you can eat, even when you know they’re really good for you! So, today I thought we’d focus specifically on apples (they’re my favorite food for reducing allergic asthma symptoms). Here are some ways I’ve been known to enjoy an apple:

  • Sliced with a bit of cinnamon sprinkled on it
  • With peanut butter
  • Cut into bite-sized pieces and put into my morning oatmeal
  • As a raw apple pie
  • With cheddar cheese cubes
  • Warmed slightly and sprinkled with nutmeg
  • As apple sauce
  • In muffins (I usually double the amount the recipe calls for)
  • Cored, stuffed with cranberries, drizzled with a little caramel sauce and zapped in the microwave for a few seconds. (Yum! But, obviously, not an everyday treat.)

What I’ve found is that it’s easy not to eat my daily apple–I just plain get tired of them. But, because I know they make me feel better, I’ve gone out of my way to assemble other options to just eating the apple sliced.

If you’ve found a certain food works well as an allergy asthma treatment for you, try this exercise–brainstorm options for how to eat your food in new and different ways. This will help you eat more of whatever foods make you feel better and alleviate your symptoms. If you’d like to share what you come up with, please do!

  • About

Hiya! I'm Jess. I was diagnosed with allergy-induced asthma about two years ago.

Since then, I've found that my asthma symptoms are a great barometer of just how well I'm taking care of myself. On days when I practice self care, I breathe easier than on days when I don't.

Now that I've gotten a handle on my own symptoms I wanted to create a place where I could share what's worked for me and hear from *you* on what helps to treat your allergic asthma symptoms. Welcome to my site. I'm looking forward to getting to know you.
