Does it help to know the pollen count?

Tell me your thoughts on something. Do you like knowing that the pollen levels are sky high? Or would you rather not know? Does knowing help you prepare to treat your allergic asthma symptoms or do you keep an eye on the numbers but not really do anything about them?

If you weren’t aware, you can track the daily pollen counts at http://www.pollen.com/allergy-weather-forecast.asp but before you hop over there to check out your city, tell me more about the impact knowing the pollen count would have on your own behaviors.

For me, I do try to take better care of myself when I know the pollen counts are high, but I’m not obsessive about it. I am careful about washing my hands after being outdoors, and I use a neti pot more frequently during the spring. I try to stay away from antihistamines unless they become absolutely necessary (even the non-drowsy ones make me very, very sleepy), so I feel like it’s especially important to practice good allergic asthma preventative care so that I don’t have to take a pill.

Now it’s your turn! Tell me all about how you handle pollen counts and if you ignore the data completely.

Hiya! I'm Jess. I was diagnosed with allergy-induced asthma about two years ago.

Since then, I've found that my asthma symptoms are a great barometer of just how well I'm taking care of myself. On days when I practice self care, I breathe easier than on days when I don't.

Now that I've gotten a handle on my own symptoms I wanted to create a place where I could share what's worked for me and hear from *you* on what helps to treat your allergic asthma symptoms. Welcome to my site. I'm looking forward to getting to know you.
