Dessert for Asthmatics

I love Fall fruits–pears are absolutely my favorite, but I also love apples in all their multi-colored variety. What’s even better, though, is that both pears and apples are thought to help reduce asthma symptoms which means that enjoying these fall fruits can also be good for asthmatics.

This weekend, I made a gorgeous pear and apple pie and enjoyed it so much I wanted to share the recipe with you. You’ll find the recipe I used here.

I had a couple of friends over on Sunday for a late lunch and the pie was a big hit–everyone loved it. I used less sugar than the recipe calls for (about a tablespoon less) and also used Pumpkin Pie spices and ground cloves instead of the spices called for (Pumpkin Pie spice is ginger, cin, and nutmeg and since I didn’t have any ginger on hand, it made a good substitution). I served it with a dollop of real whipped cream–when I splurge, I like to eat the good stuff–and it was perfect.

In my oven, I had to take it out a little earlier than the recipe calls for, so make sure you watch it closely towards the end–it seems like apple pies burn kind of easily, and I wanted to avoid that.

Since I’d already read about the caffeine and asthma link, I served it with a delicious pot of coffee, too!

Enjoy this tasty and asthma-fighting treat!

Hiya! I'm Jess. I was diagnosed with allergy-induced asthma about two years ago.

Since then, I've found that my asthma symptoms are a great barometer of just how well I'm taking care of myself. On days when I practice self care, I breathe easier than on days when I don't.

Now that I've gotten a handle on my own symptoms I wanted to create a place where I could share what's worked for me and hear from *you* on what helps to treat your allergic asthma symptoms. Welcome to my site. I'm looking forward to getting to know you.
