Caffeine and Asthma?

Did you know that caffeine may help reduce exercise-related asthma symptoms? Apparently, researchers at the University of Bloomberg (Indiana) have found that consuming the amount of caffeine found in 2-3 cups of coffee one hour before heading out for a run is as effective as using an inhaler to open the runner’s airways.

I don’t know about you, but I’ll definitely be talking to my doctor about this. While downing two cups of coffee before my morning run might not be practical, finding out the impact that caffeine has on my asthma symptoms and what kinds of more natural alternatives there might be to traditional inhalers always appeals to me.

It just seems smart to find out all that we can about all of our treatment options, plus since inhalers are thought to lose effectiveness over time, it’s helpful to know about as many  things that fight asthma as possible.

What do you think? Would you try something alternative like coffee to treat your asthma and open your airways if your doctor suggested it?

Hiya! I'm Jess. I was diagnosed with allergy-induced asthma about two years ago.

Since then, I've found that my asthma symptoms are a great barometer of just how well I'm taking care of myself. On days when I practice self care, I breathe easier than on days when I don't.

Now that I've gotten a handle on my own symptoms I wanted to create a place where I could share what's worked for me and hear from *you* on what helps to treat your allergic asthma symptoms. Welcome to my site. I'm looking forward to getting to know you.
