About
Hi there! I’m Jess and I was diagnosed with allergic asthma a little over two years ago. At first, I was in denial about the diagnosis–I’d always been really healthy and had never had allergies before so how was it that, in my 30s, I suddenly had allergic asthma?
I was *pissed*. I couldn’t do the things I loved to do anymore (at least, not while my symptoms were so severe), and what was worse was that when my breathing difficulties were especially bad, I found myself prone to anxiety and panic attacks–neither of which were things I’d dealt with before my diagnosis.
I had to relearn a lot when it came to relating to my body, and having allergic asthma has definitely taught me to be more patient and gentle with myself and others. I was so used to being “Super woman” and never quite understood when people would say they weren’t healthy enough to do something… Now I get it. When my symptoms are bad, it takes me two-three times as long to accomplish things like paint a room in my house and sometimes that really sucks. But it’s also something I’m starting to take more in stride these days.
This site is about two things: accepting your allergic asthma symptoms (because I’ve come to believe that without that acceptance, you’re just fighting yourself and exacerbating your breathing difficulties); and, relieving those symptoms. I’ll share what’s worked for me, and I’d love to hear about what’s working for you, too!
So far, my favorite of the posts on this site is a five-day series I wrote about five new habits to put in place that have helped reduce my symptoms. It’s called: “Reduce Allergic Asthma Symptoms in 5 Days” and I hope you enjoy it!
